Kathleen Hersey Is A Freshman Swimmer

August 24, 2008

Meet Kathleen Hersey, an American swimmer who is also a part of the country’s elite freshman swimmer class. She took part in her first Olympics in Beijing this year. See photos, video and her biography here.

Kathleen took part in the 200m butterfly event and finished a dismal eight. She took a time of 2.06.96 in the semifinals which would have been good for a fourth place in the main event, but couldn’t hold on to her personal best.

As a biography, Kathleen Elizabeth Hersey was born on February 21, 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia. She attends the Marist School and will be going to the University Of Texas on a full swimming scholarship.

Kathleen has been a four-time gold medalist at the Pan-American games and got an entry in the US national team after coming second in the Olympic trials in July. She knows that she’s quite young right now and can improve later, but her ultimate goal was to reach the Olympics.

“That’s been my goal ever since I’ve known about the Olympics and that that is as far as you can go,” says Hersey, who trains alongside 2004 Olympian Amanda Weir at SwimAtlanta.
