Pam Shriver has filed for divorce from her husband George Lazenby. Her 68-year-old husband is an Australian actor who played James Bond in 1969s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The 46-year-old former tennis star cites ‘irreconcilable differences’ and is asking for custody of the couple’s three children.
Pamela Howard Shriver was born on July 4, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is 46-years-old. She graduated from the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Shriver is one of five women in the world of tennis who have won over 100 career titles. Her first major tennis accomplishment was making it to the women’s singles finals in 1978 when she was just a 16-years-old amateur. That year, she defeated Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon, but was ultimately defeated by Chris Evert. She went on to take over 100 titles in women’s doubles. She and Navratilova teamed up, making one of the greatest women’s double teams in tennis history. They dominated the field during their reign. They won seven Australian Opens, five Wimbledons, five US Open and four French Open titles. They were ‘Doubles Team of the Year’ for eight consecutive years, 1981 through 1988.
Shriver was ranked number one in the world in 1985. She was consistently in the top 10 in women’s tennis throughout her career. She retired from tennis in 1996. Since her retirement she has stayed involved in the sport through commentary. She has been a tennis analyst for CBS, ABC, BBC, ESPN and 7-Sport in Australia.
In 2002, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
She serves on the Board of Directors of the United States Tennis Association, is President of the USA Tennis Foundation and Vice-President of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. She is a minority owner of the Baltimore Orioles and stays active in a number of charities.
Shriver was married to Joe Shapiro until his death from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1999. he was a Walt Disney company attorney.
She married Lazenby in 2002. They have three children together. Their son George, Jr. was born in July 2004. They have twins, Kate and Sam, who were born on October 1, 2005.
