Candace Parker, rookie for the Los Angeles Sparks, was involved in a fight between she and Detroit Shock forward Plenette Pierson earlier this evening at the Palace of Auburn Hills. See photos and video of the Candace Parker fight below.
There were only 4.5 seconds left in the game, when Parker and Pierson got entangled and ended up on the floor after Sparks guard Marie Ferdinand-Harris shot a free throw. Pierson immediately got up, stood over Parker, and Parker then pulled Pierson to the ground. Of course, a melee ensued. The benches from both teams came over to help their teammates, and as veteran Sparks player Lisa Leslie came over, she was pushed away by Rick Mahorn, Detroit Shock assistant, causing Leslie to fall backwards. Sparks forward DeLisha Milton-Jones then hit Mahorn in the back.
Shock forward Cheryl Ford tried to get Pierson away from the fracas, and ended up injuring her knee and had to be taken away in a wheelchair.
After the refs reviewed the tape, Parker, Milton-Jones, Mahorn and Pierson were all ejected from the game.
“I don’t even recall what happened – I’ll have to look at the tape. I don’t really remember any of it.?
Any suspensions or penalties will be announced by the league on Wednesday.
