Bridget Sloan: Olympic Gymnast

Meet Bridget Sloan, an American gymnast on her way to the Beijing Summer Olympics. See photos, video and a biography of Bridget below.

Bridget Sloan was named to the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team last Saturday, grabbing the last spot of the six member squad headed to the Beijing Olympics next month.

“I wanted to show them that they could trust me,�? Sloan said. “I just went out there and prayed it would work out.�?

As a biography, Bridget Sloan was born on June 23, 1992 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is 16 years old. Her parents are Jeff and Mary Sloan, and she has three older siblings, Kyle, Nathan and Kassie. She currently lives in Pittsboro, Indiana, where she attends Tri-West High School.

Bridget started in the world of gymnastics when she was 4 years old. Her mother enrolled her in gymnastics class so she could expend some extra energy. Little did they know that it would turn out to be something much more.

In 2003, at the age of 10, she competed at the U.S. Challenge and placed 5th in the All-Around and 2nd in the bars. The following year, she competed in the American Classic and placed 16th.

She became a member of the U.S. National Team in 2005 and 2006. She competed in the L’International GymNix and placed 2nd in the All-Around, 3rd in Vault and 2nd in the Balance Beam.

2007 was a huge year for Bridget. She placed 3rd in the All-Around during the USA vs World competition, placed 6th in the All-Around and 3rd in the Floor Exercise at the USA vs UK competition, was a USA World Team Member and at the Olympic Test Event (China), placed 3rd in the All-Around and 2nd in the Floor Exercise.
