Samantha Peszek: Olympic Gymnast

July 21, 2008

Meet Samantha Peszek, an American gymnast who will represent the United States at the Beijing Summer Olympics. See photos, video and a biography of Samantha here.

Samantha Peszek is in the news as she was named to the U.S. Olympic Women’s gymnastics team this past Saturday. She, along with Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Alicia Sacramone, Bridget Sloan and Chellsie Memmel round out the U.S. team. Alternates for the team were named as well – Ivana Hong, Corrie Lothrop and Janna Bieger.

As a biography, Samantha Peszek was born on December 14, 1991 in McCordsville, Indiana. She is 16 years old. She started gymnastics in 1993, when she was only 2 years old. No surprise that she has excelled in gymnastics, as her mother, Luan, was a gymnast at the University of Illinois. She currently attends Cathedral High School, where she is an Honor Roll student, and will be a junior this fall.

Peszek was part of the gold medal winning team at the 2007 World Championships and the 2007 Pan American Games.

She placed third in the All-Around at the 2008 Tyson American Cup and the Italy-Spain-Poland-USA competition in Jesolo, Italy.

Peszek’s hobbies include shopping, going to the movies and hanging out with her friends. She loves MTV and enjoys “all kinds of music”.

Good Luck at the Beijing Olympics Samantha!
