Meet Yelena Isinbayeva, a gorgeous Russian pole vaulter. See photos, video and a biography of Yelena here.
Yelena Isinbayeva is in the news again, this time besting her previous world record in the pole vault she set three years ago of 16-5 1/4. At the Golden Gala meet in Rome Friday, she cleared 16 feet 6 inches. She set out to beat her own world record today, in response to American Jenn Stuczynski’s 16-3/4 vault on May 18th.
“Everybody was saying, ‘Ah, O.K., Isinbayeva is finished, we have a new star,’ ? she said at a news conference. “So today I was really angry.?
She had no problem clearing the world record height on her second try. She no doubt is favored to win the gold at the Beijing Olympics…but American Jenn Stuczynski is not too far behind.
As a biography, Yelena Isinbayeva was born on June 3rd, 1982 in Volgograd, Russia. She is 26 years old. As a young child, Isinbayeva took up gymnastics when she was 5 years old, and continued until she was 15, when she reached 5′ 8 1/2″. She was deemed too tall to compete in the sport. In November of 1997, she took up pole vaulting. In 1999, she competed at the World Youth Games in Poland and won the gold medal.
She went on to compete at the European Junior Championships in 2001 and won yet another gold. Over the next few years, she continued to improve and in the 2004 Athens Olympics, she took the gold. She set a world outdoor record on August 12, 2005 of 5.01 m (16 feet 5 1/4 inches), only to beat it yesterday at 5.03 m, (16 feet 6 inches).
This Russian hottie is the one to beat at the Beijing Summer Olympics, and as you can see from the pictures below, quite easy on the eyes as well…The question is…do you think she’s hotter than another pole vaulting beauty – Allison Stokke?
