Kristi Yamaguchi: 2008 Dancing With The Stars Winner (Photos and Video)

May 20, 2008

Olympic figure skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi prevails again, this time off the ice as she was crowned the 2008 Dancing With The Stars Winner! See photos and videos of Kristi’s winning performances below.

Kristi Yamaguchi and her dancing partner, Mark Ballas, were hands down the favorite to win the coveted disco ball trophy. They scored perfect 10’s during the finale Monday night, and Kristi and Mark have been consistent throughout the Dancing With The Stars competition.

Kristi’s background in figure skating clearly gave her the advantage over the other skaters, as she looked so comfortable on the dance floor, just as she is on the ice. She admits though, that it’s been hard to compete with the personalities of the male contestants.

“You obviously have to get the technique, but (also) compete with the personalities that all the boys have,” Yamaguchi told The Associated Press after Monday’s performances. “I think their smiles and their personalities melt hearts across the country.”

NFL star Jason Taylor and his hottie of a partner, Edyta Slwiniska, placed second, with Cristian de la Fuente and his partner Cheryl Burke placced third. Kristi is the second Olympian to win the DWTS crown – Apolo Anton Ohno won the title in its fourth season with partner Julianne Hough.

Congratulations Kristi! Well deserved!

i don’t think i will ever watch this competition because the judges decided she was the winner early in the contest. even on her worst nights her scores were extremely high. i know they know about ballroom dancing but the improvement in the other contestants was really outstanding and kristy did not have to improve because she knew most of the dancing before she ever started.
