Zara Phillips Falls from Horse During Competition

May 9, 2008

Zara Phillips, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth of Britain, was named to the British Olympic Equestrian Team and fell from her horse today. Read more about it and see photos and a video below.

The British Olympic Association informed Princess Zara Phillips that she will be one of five to represent Great Britain in the Beijing Olympics this year. The equestrian eventing competition begins on August 9th in Hong Kong. Princess Zara will probably ride her favorite horse, Toytown for the Olympics eventing.

She is following in the footsteps (or saddle) of both of her parents who have been Olympians. Her won gold for Britain in eventing at the 1972 Munich Olympics and silver at the Seoul Olympics. Her mother represented Britain at the 1996 Montreal Olympic games. Princess Zara has been riding virtually all her life.

She just learned that she would be in the Olympics today and then later in the day competed in dressage, show-jumping and cross-country events at Rodbaston College in Wolvershampton. During the event she took a tumble off her horse.

This isn’t her first tumble off the horse and its somewhat reminiscent of a tumble off a barstool she took recently. She and her boyfriend Mike Tindell had a drunken night out after the Cheltenham Gold Cup in which she fell of a bar stool and Mike was allegedly arrested from drunken driving. She is known for partying and being the wildest of the royals.

Fortunately, neither Zara nor her horse were injured in the mishap today.
