Meet Zara Phillips, an elite equestrienne, oldest granddaughter to the Queen, and girlfriend of rugby star Mike Tindall. See photos, video and a biography of Zara below.
As a biography, Zara Anne Elizabeth Phillips was born on May 15, 1981 to Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips. Zara is the oldest granddaughter to Queen Elizabeth and is twelfth in line to the British throne. Zara’s parents divorced in 1992.
Zara attended Beaudesert Park School and Port Regis Prep School. She finished at the famed Gordonstoun School, which has educated three generations of the British royal family. Zara went on to the University of Exeter, where she became a physiotherapist specializing in Equine Physiotherapy. Zara has always been involved in sports, having participated in hockey and gymnastics.
Zara is widely known as being an accomplished equestrienne, much like her parents, and has garnered several awards along the way – gold medals at the 2005 European Eventing Championship in Blenheim (individual and team), and at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Germany, where she won an individual gold and team silver during the event. She won team gold at the 2007 European Eventing Championship in Italy, but was unable to defend the individual title she won the year before. She was voted the 2006 BBC Sports Personality of the Year by the public and is now a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), having had the honor bestowed on her in 2007 for her service to equestrianism. Zara hopes to compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Zara is currently dating Mike Tindall of Gloucester Rugby. They met shortly after England won the World Cup in November 2003.
