The sequel to Kristi Yamaguchi’s New York Times bestselling children’s book, “Dream Big, Little Pig!”, is due to hit the shelves on March 6. “It’s a Big World, Little Pig!” follows Poppy the pig to Paris, where she will compete in the World Games ice skating championship. I was lucky enough to be given an advance copy of the book, and it is absolutely adorable!
Last year Kristi Yamaguchi added children’s book author to her already long successful resume with the release of the picture book “Dream Big, Little Pig!”. The book debuted at #2 on the New YorkTimes bestseller list. We were introduced to Poppy the pig, who was determined to follow her dreams, no matter what. In the sequel, “It’s a Big World, Little Pig!”, we follow Poppy in an international adventure that takes her to Paris! She’s been invited to compete at the World Games ice skating championship.
While Poppy is a bit anxious about being somewhere new, she meets new people and realizes that even though they may look, act and speak differently, we’re all the same. No matter what language you speak, a smile is understood by everyone.
Kristi explained, “She experiences her first international travel and is anxious about traveling outside of her country, and also worried about meeting friends that are different from her. It’s all about embracing each other’s differences and finding something that they have in common.”
Poppy’s story is one straight out of Kristi’s past. When she was 14, with her pairs partner Rudy Galindo, they competed in Sarajevo at the Junior World Championship. She recalled,
“I vividly remember my first international competition and the excitement of meeting skaters who didn’t speak English and who were fascinated with Levis because they were so Western. It was such an eye-opening experience. It taught me at such a young age to appreciate people from different countries and cultures.”
A portion of the profits from “It’s a Big World, Little Pig!” will benefit childhood literacy programs that are supported through her Always Dream Foundation.
I encourage you to pick up a copy of her latest children’s picture book. It’s an inspirational story that every child will enjoy! Grab your copy on March 6th.
