Yep, Suh’s fine of $20,000 for a hit on Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton last week has left the Detroit Lions defensive end shocked. Is the fine warranted?
Did you see the hit in question? The first video below shows Suh grab rookie QB Andy Dalton and throw him to the ground. The power of the hit sent Dalton’s helmet flying. Flags were thrown and the DT was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness. Suh’s fine of $20,000 is the third of which he has had to pay up for some manhandling. In his rookie season last year, he paid out after some rough play on Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler ($15,000) and Cleveland Brown’s QB, Jake Delhomme ($7,500). Quite a reputation already, eh? Suh spoke to the Detroit Free Press on Sunday regarding his play.
“There’s always a fine line of dirtiness and a fine line of aggressiveness. I know to this point that in my own heart I haven’t crossed that line by any means.”
So while many will say that Suh was merely doing his job, others have their own opinions on the matter (obviously non Lions fans), labeling Suh as a dirty player and he got what he deserved. It is, of course, his third offense. While I totally understand about safety and the like, this is the NFL. You know going into this as a player that it can be a very violent game. It is a contact sport, yes? On the flip side, better judgment should be made on behalf of these players in regards to their aggressiveness. I mean really, it was the pre-season after all. Watch your knees, Suh. I see retaliation in your future. Just sayin’.
Suh took to Twitter and voiced his response to the $20,000 fine handed down by the NFL.
“$20,000 REALLY???!!!!!!… #NFL #BIGFAIL”
Eh, chump change to Suh, right?
