Tiger Woods and his long time caddy Steve William parted ways, Steve is now with Adam Scott who just won the 2011 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but as new names surround Tiger Woods as his new caddy all eyes are now on Shane Joel as the best candidate to caddy for the famous golfer. Is Joel Tiger’s new caddy or do we still have to wait some more? Find out here, plus check out some important facts about Shane with video after the jump.
Tiger Woods hired Steve Williams as his caddy in 1999, at that time Woods was just 24 and the best ranked golfer worldwide so I can imagine for Williams that was a huge step. They became great friends, even after Tiger’s alleged affairs he remained close to the golfer. But when Tiger announced he was ready for a change caddy speaking it was hell on earth, Williams was furious and he didn’t hesitate to show his anger to the world. With his shady comments, that to tell you the truth he totally made a fool of himself, even other caddies thought his actions were stupid and childish, his was the latest he said when he was interviewed at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
“I’ve caddied for 33 years — 145 wins now — and that’s the best win I’ve ever had.” The following day he expressed regret for the remarks, noting they were “over the top” certainly he then added to release a retraction, “I had a lot of anger in me about what happened (with Woods) and it all came out.”
Even more considering Tiger’s reaction which came more like a slap in his face.
“Well, I was happy to see Stevie and Adam win. Adam has been a friend of mine, and same with Stevie.”
Okay moving on, the new caddy for the moment, Tiger’s friend and business partner Byron Bell, you might remember Bell’s name was mentioned by one of Woods’ alleged mistresses who claimed that her meetings with Tiger, flights and even money sent by Tiger were all arranged through Bell. But remember, nothing was ever confirmed of that. So anyways Shane Joel is from Brisbane, in the land down under, and has been the caddy for Mark O’Meara for over seven years. Mr. O’Meara is a good friend of Tiger and it was because of that friendship that he was the one who talked to Tiger about Shane…
“There’s nobody I’ve committed to, but Mark was nice enough to talk to me about it and said that Shane is available if I so choose. But going into this major championship, I’m focused on this. After this event I’ll sit down and really look at it hopefully going to the Playoffs.”
Joel and Woods have been spotted talking over the past week, but until this day nothing is for sure about Tiger’s decision about his new caddy, so sorry but we’ll have to wait. Still Shane might be great for him, we’ll see what happens. Check out the video below where you’ll see Jimmy Kimmel’s coverage on Tiger’s new caddy!!
