Is Brett Favre Eagles bound? Or is he headed to Seattle? Seriously now, he’s thinking of coming out of retirement? Here we go AGAIN. Rumors started to swirl over the weekend that the Eagles were possibly interested in the former quarterback as a backup to Michael Vick. So what’s the deal?
Could there be something left in 41-year-old Brett Favre? The Eagles seem to think so. Okay, maybe just a little bit. One person who’d be thrilled to have Favre join the Eagles organization? Michael Vick. He tweeted Sunday morning, “I would be honored to have Brett Favre as a backup. That will be amazing learning how to toy with defenses the way he did his whole career.”
As you can imagine, Vick’s tweet set off a bit of a hubbub, and before you knew it, his tweet was deleted. Favre does have ties to the Eagles, in the likes of Philly head coach Andy Reid, who was part of the Packers organization as an assistant and Marty Mornhinweg, who was an offensive assistant and quarterback coach during the Favre era. A bit of a coming home for Favre maybe?
Earlier this month, his brother was asked if Brett would come out of retirement to play. He said, ‘“I would say there’s less than a 1 percent chance (he would return). He is retired.” His mother even said, “I would hope he would not do it. He is crazy if he does.”
There has been no comment by Favre regarding the rumors, and his agent, Bus Cook, calls the buzz ‘speculation’. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We’re all too accustomed to Favre’s summer wishy washiness – ‘should I play, should I not play’, blah blah blah. He may officially be retired from the NFL, but with Favre, who knows, right? I bet we go down this road next summer as well. Just sayin’.
