Misty May-Treanor: Volleyball HOT

Misty May-Treanor and her partner, Kerri Walsh, won the Association of Volleyball Professionals’ first event of the season on Sunday in Miami, Florida. They beat the defending event champions, Elaine Youngs and Nicole Branagh in a 62 minute match, 21-15, 17-21, 15-13.

As a biography, Misty May was born on July 30, 1977 in Santa Monica, California. She attended Newport Harbor High School, where she and her team were the California State Champions. She was named the High School National Player of the Year in 1995. Misty went on to California State University, Long Beach, and while there was named the Athlete of the Year in 1998, won a national championship, and for three years was on the All American First Team for indoor volleyball.

In the 2000 Summer Olympics, Misty and her teammate Holly McPeak finished fifth. In 2003, Misty had a new teammate in Kerri Walsh and together they would have an incredible 39-0 season and ultimately were named the Association of Volleyball Professionals Team of the Year. The following year, during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Misty and Kerri won the gold medal after beating the team from Brazil in the finals.

Misty married Florida Marlins catcher Matt Treanor in November 2004.
