Kentucky Derby 1 2 3

It seemed that for jockey John Velasquez winning the Kentucky Derby was meant to be, he was scheduled to ride Uncle Mo but when the horse was scratched from the race that dream faded away until he was informed he will replace Robby Alvarado, the jockey who was supposed to ride Animal Kingdom but couldn’t due to a broken nose.

Animal Kingdom is already a popular name but after his amazing win at the Derby 2011 his name will become even more famous. The horse, owned by Team Valor, this chestnut stallion was foaled in 2008, his father was the great Brazilian horse champion Leroidesanimaux and the beautiful German Dalicia Preis der Sparkassen-Finanzgrupp winner.

Animal Kingdom is trained by the 46 year-old British horse trainer H. Graham Motion, who grabbed Velasquez when Uncle Mo was out of the race. This was the first dirt race for Kingdom and definitely not the last after his outstanding race where he left Nehro in the second place by 2¾ lengths and with 2:02.04 on the clock, the third place was Mucho Macho, fourth was Shackleford, fifth Master of Hounds, sixth Santiva, Brilliant Speed was seventh, the eighth place went to Dialed In, followed by Pants on Fire in the ninth place and Twice the Appeal in tenth.

Continuing with the results we saw Soldat who finished 11th, Stay Thristy in 12th, Derby Kitten 13th, Desecive Moment in 14th, Archarcharch 15th, Midnight Interlude 16th, Twinspired 17th, Watch Me go on the 18th and the last place was to Comma To The Top.

This was an emotional win for Animal Kingdom’s owne,r Barry Irwin couldn’t believe it while jockey Velasquez couldn’t find the words to describe what he was feeling.

“I’m surprised. This horse was bucking a lot of history and it was not something we really expected. I’m overwhelmed.” Said Irwin, while the jockey said this..”Now I pick up this one and I win the Derby. It was meant to be. It’s words you can’t describe.”

Congratulations to all of them but mostly to the beautiful 2011 Kentucky Derby Winner, Änimal Kingdom. Below you’ll find the 137th Kentucky Derby race and the moment AK won the race, Enjoy!!
