So much for a race to the finish! Derek Lowe, a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, was picked up under suspicion of driving under the influence last night! Strike, you’re outta there!
The MLB player was playing the fast and the furious in lieu of his fast pitching, with his Porsche! Fastball!
According to reports, Lowe was picked up by Atlanta State Patrol around 10 pm last night. The State Troopers could smell alcohol on his person before making their arrest. On the scene, Derek refused a sobriety test and was taken into custody…and yes, his sports car was taken to the pound.
The Atlanta Braves pitcher was cited for: an improper lane change, reckless driving, and a DUI.
It is said that Lowe was actually exercising his need for speed in a race against another driver. NBC Sports says that “troopers observed two vehicles racing on Peachtree Road and were able to get both vehicles stopped.” The other driver was only cited for reckless driving.
Derek is most-known for his mad skills during the Boston Red Sox 2004 playoffs, becoming “the first pitcher in history to win the final game of three postseason series.”
Lowe also offered a statement of apology to his family and friends, teammates, fans, and the MLB organization declaring this a legal matter that he believes will be taken care of in an orderly fashion.
Although the ball player posted $2,944 bail, there are no more details regarding this matter.
This just adds to the growing scrutiny of the Atlanta Braves following the gay slurs put on by the team’s coach Roger McDowell. Let’s hope they can get their integrity together, put their game face on and start playing some ball!
