Bryant Gumbel is stepping down from his position at the NFL Network. Gumbel, who has been a sports reporter since 1972, has decided to end his run as a play-by-play announcer for the network. Gumbel and the network reportedly decided to part ways amicably. Gumbel, who remains content about his decision was quoted as saying – “I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me. But we’ve agreed that we’d all be better served going in different directions.” During the two years Gumbel worked as a play-by-play announcer, many criticized his work. Never really calling the plays on time and making several simple mistakes, the reporter left a lot to be desired. Gumbel does, however, have plenty on his plate to keep him busy with his HBO show “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel”. The successful show, which began in 1995, has been called “flat out TV’s best sports program”.
