No. 2 ranked in the world tennis player Kim Clijsters may not be able to play in the French Open next month due to an ankle injury. How did she get hurt? It wasn’t during practice, nope, it seems as if Miss K had a bit of a dance mishap at a wedding. Yep, we’ve got the deets below.
It hasn’t been confirmed for sure if Clijsters will sit out this year’s French Open, but more than likely she has no choice.
Earlier this month, due to pain in her shoulder and wrist, she had to withdraw from the Fed Cup. She was told at the time to get some rest and undergo physical therapy. She was totally bummed that she wouldn’t be able to compete in the semi-finals against Czech Republich in Charleroi starting April 16th. She said at the time that she was going to take it easy and get ready for Roland Garros. Unfortunately, it looks like she won’t be competing at the French Open either.
According to her website, she was at her nephew Tim’s wedding over the weekend and somehow injured her ankle. Several sites report that she hurt herself while out on the dance floor. What the heck? That had to have been some funky dance moves out there! Perhaps Elaine Benes style? Ha! Her injury was so bad that the diagnosis ended up as ‘severe strain of both the medial and lateral ligaments of the right ankle and a torn ligaments, a torn capsule of the ankle joint, and a hematoma and torn tendon sheath.’ She is now out of commission for a reported six weeks. Seriously now…Kim has the worst luck, eh?
The French Open starts May 17, a mere five weeks away. Is that enough time for the four time Grand Slam champ to recoup and be ready for Roland Garros? Doubtful. But hey, you just never know! Here’s to a speedy recovery, Kim. In the future, be careful out on that dance floor!
