Candace Parker has had herself one helluva day. She led Tennessee to their second NCAA title Tuesday night and was the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft earlier today – picked up by the Los Angeles Sparks. See photos below.
“These last 15 hours or so have been just amazing,” Parker said. “To win a national championship and then switch gears and come to the WNBA draft and be surrounded by my peers that I’ve played with ever since I was in junior high school has been amazing.”
Parker will join her idol, Lisa Leslie, and former Lady Vol Sidney Spencer on the Sparks team. Leslie sat out last season after giving birth to her daughter in June. With the WNBA season starting just a month away, the Sparks have themselves quite a combo in Parker and Leslie and will be a force to be reckoned with. No doubt their record will improve after last season’s dismal 10-24 record while Leslie was out. Their pre-season starts on Saturday, May 3 at Atlanta, while their season opener begins on Saturday, May 17th in Phoenix, against the defending champs Phoenix Mercury.
