Famous Alumni from NCAA Tournament Schools

March 18, 2011

Need help picking your favorites for the 2011 NCAA Tournament? Setting up a bracket but couldn’t tell a three-pointer from a layup? Then you’ve come to the right place! Pick this year’s winner based on which famous alumni went there!

This March Madness strategy has already proven just crazy enough to work with the surprise losses by Louisville and Vanderbilt. The celebrities representing those schools? Author Sue Grafton and former VP Al Gore. Would you have picked them to win? I don’t think so.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the famous alumni who have attended the top-seeded NCAA Tournament schools. Almost every big school has some big names in it’s history, but I’ve picked the best-known from the modern era.

1. Ohio State – Patricia Heaton
2. North Carolina – Michael Jordan
3. Syracuse – Taye Diggs

Ken Jeong

1. Duke – Ken Jeong
2. San Diego State – Raquel Welch
3. Connecticut – Meg Ryan

Paul Rudd2

1. Kansas – Paul Rudd
2. Notre Dame – Regis Philbin
3. Purdue – Drew Brees

Dan Marino2

1. Pittsburgh – Dan Marino
2. Florida – Emmitt Smith
3. BYU – Aaron Eckhart

Sorry about that Pittsburgh fans! If you’re still not convinced about this tried and true strategy, take a tip from the leader of our great nation. President Obama published his bracket via ESPN again this year, and guess who’s a Paul Rudd fan? That’s right Obama picked Kansas to win on the pretense of ‘picking a solid team,’ but now we all know that he’s just a big “I Love You, Man” fan.

Can’t find the celebrity you want to back this year? Well here’s some honorable mentions that could be solid dark-horses in 2011!

Emily Deschanel – Boston University
Jimmy Kimmel – UNLV
Bradley Cooper – GeorgeTown
Bill Cosby – Temple

Well there you have it! Stay tuned to your TVs to watch some solid matchups this weekend. Meg Ryan (Uconn) takes on George Clooney (Cincy) on Sunday, and we all know Meg can throw a mean punch. We also have Ashley Judd (Kentucky) facing Cheryl Hines (West Virginia) Saturday (cat fight!). Whose your pick to win this year’s NCAA tournament? Has your bracket been influenced by famous alumni? Let me know in the comment section!
