A young guy that not many have heard of has become the champion of the 2011 Daytona 500. Trevor Bayne wins the big race, which was only his second ever! If you want to get to know the 20 year old a little better, with more photos and videos, keep reading below.
After some restarts and cautions, he took second place going in to the final laps of the race. When the leader David Ragan was penalized, Trevor took first and stayed there until the end!
So who is this new, and may I say cute, star? Don’t miss the photo of him here. He is from Knoxville, Tennessee and was born in 1991. This was only his second NASCAR race, as he has only done smaller Nationwide Series races before. The day before the race was his birthday and then on Sunday he broke some major records!
Trevor Bayne’s win at the Daytona 500 made him the youngest to ever win this prestigious title. The next youngest was Jeff Gordon in 1997, at age 26. He races for the Wood Brothers team, who had previously not been to victory lane since 2001. This ended the losing streak and earned them $1.5 million, which is more than their earned all of last year!
He made quite an impression during Speedweeks and has been intriguing many fans and other legends of the game. Even with all of this he was still shocked to have been crowned the 2011 winner.
“If I tried to put it into words, I wouldn’t be doing it any justice, that’s for sure. To get this win, it’s my first win in NASCAR, period, in any of the top three series, my first Sprint Cup win, our second-ever race, I mean, that’s setting the standard.”
I think we will see a lot more exciting things from this young racer. For the immediate future, he will be doing some promotional traveling and then getting ready for his next race. What do you think about this year’s Daytona 500? Trevor Bayne wins, and he does it with style! Enjoy these pictures and video from the race, then leave me your comments below!
