Did Christina Aguilera really screw up singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl? Where exactly did she mess up? Was she drunk? Allegedly of course. Did they say anything right away after the The Star Spangled Banner’s lyrics were messed up? Find out about that and so much more plus check out the exact lyrics in Christina’s Super Bowl video after the jump.
Just a couple of week ago we reported that Christina Aguilera was the singer in charge of singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl 2011 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Certainly with a tremendous voice like hers the performance was going to be super, but the truth is that it was super bad, not only did she show up with her hair all messed up but she messed up the lyrics, Ouch!
Christina Aguilera’s mistake came in the fourth line when The Star Spangled Banner says “‘O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming” instead Aguilera sang “what so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last.” Oh God Christina!
See the National Anthem’s lyrics to find where Christina said she has been singing the National Anthem ever since she was a little girl.
Oh, say! can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
So do you think she will be invited after this mistake, after all she managed to get away with it or do you think she will stick to Halftime show performances like her first at Super Bowl XXXIV? See Christina Aguilera’s National Anthem at Super Bowl 2011, video below.
