Jesus hates Obama? Is there a site actually called that? Is it really going to air during the Super Bowl XLV? Will it be banned from the list of other Super Bowl Ads? Keep reading to know all about it and be the judge of this controversial ad by watching the video provided after the jump.
Super Bowl Ads and commercials are always expected to be the greatest triumph in advertising of every company that expends thousands of dollars, some are great, others are terrible and there are others that are banned from television, which is the case of the latest ad that has been banned from airing on February 6th.
The NFL already made Toyota change their Super Bowl helmet to helmet commercial and now FOX is banning Jesushatesobama.com from showing their ad during the SB.
The site itself is loaded with clothing and beer mugs with their motto Jesus Hates Obama on it, the baseball caps, however, just say Obama but they added devil horns on the letter O and a devil’s tail on the last A, the t-shirts available for men and women have the same caption and others that said ‘Jesus Loves you but Hates Obama’. Its founder, Richard Belfry, said the entire site and their message is just a joke.
Belfry is a comedian in Los Angeles who started his site in 2009, but before the site was started he sold his merchandise in his van. He reportedly sold over $70,000 in merchandise with prices ranging from $19.99 to $24.99. He also said the commercial is scheduled to air before the game begins, it was purchased at $2.3M from the $3M he received from his investors.
Whether the commercial has been banned or not is uncertain since FOX won’t release any information about it.
“If an advertiser wishes to submit an ad for consideration, we will review it and determine if it’s appropriate for air, provide information about the materials that may or may not have been submitted.”
“Do we really believe that Jesus hates Obama? Of course not! However, we do believe in freedom…as in the freedom to make fun of the Obama administration with novelty t-shirts…our products may be a joke but so are the policies of this administration.”
But it certainly is no joke for FOX, who won’t permit the ad from airing during Super Bowl night.
“Not acceptable to air on FOX.”
