Meet Kirsten Haglund, Miss America 2008. See photos, video and a biography of Kirsten below.
Kirsten Haglund, Miss America 2008 threw out the ceremonial first pitch yesterday (of course, while wearing her crown) at the Detroit Tigers’ season opener. She sang the National Anthem before the game as well. She admitted that she was nervous, and even practiced by throwing some balls around this last week to prepare her for the first pitch.
As a biography, Kirsten Haglund was born on November 30, 1989 in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She has pageantry in her genes, as her grandmother competed for the Miss Michigan state title in 1944 and her mother is an active volunteer in the pageant world.
She attends the University of Cincinnati and is studying music, with hopes of becoming a Broadway star.
Kirsten was crowned Miss Michigan on June 16, 2007. She wants to raise awareness for eating disorders, since she had battled anorexia herself four years ago. It was through family intervention that she was able to conquer this disease.
Kirsten was crowned Miss America on January 26, 2008. In addition to the title, she received a $50,000 scholarship and received the Lifestyle and Fitness award and a $1,000 scholarship.
