Tiger Woods was once the best golfer in the world, but it looks like his temporary leave from the course left without glory and without sponsors, Gillette is the latest of many of Tiger’s long list of sponsors that has finalized their business relationships with the once famous golfer. Tiger Woods’ scandal last year is one topic that people keep talking about believe it or not, Elin Nordegren is already dating some unknown man, and he, well he is trying to conquer the kingdom that was once his, but tournament after tournament that possibility seemed far from happening, which is why Gillette has ended their sponsorship with Tiger, or is it because of that?
In February Tiger released his first press conference, he apologized for all the mistakes he did on his private life that affected the lives not just of his family and his own, but fans and business partners, at that time Gillette, Gatorade and Nike wished him the best.
“Tiger has apologized and made his position clear,”Nike fully supports him and his family. We look forward to him returning to golf.”
“We wish Tiger well as he works through these private matters,” said a Gatorade spokesman.
“Tiger spoke today and addressed the issues he felt were most important. His words stand on their own. We wish him and his family the best.” Said Gillette’s rep.
Gillette agreed to continue their endorsement with Tiger, but they would pull Tiger’s commercials. Proctor and Gamble aka Gillette started their sponsorship with Tiger Woods in February 2007, he joined the list of amazing athletes to be Gillette’s endorser you should remember the television commercial featuring Tiger, Thierry Henry, Roger Federer, Kaka, Derek Jeter, Laandon Donvan to name a few, but today on December 23th, 2010 Gillette announced they won’t renew Tiger’s contract, adding themselves to other sponsors that have finalized their endorsements with Woods.
After his messy scandal many sponsors left him, Accenture among the first to leave him in December, 2009 after almost 9 years together, AT&T was second in the last days of December, 2009 they would continue to endorse the golf tournament though.
Tag Heuer said they would stand by Tiger on December 14, 2009 but only days after that they dropped him after 4 years together when Tiger was featured wearing the Tag Heuer The lightweight, titanium-construction watch, Gatorade arrived in Tiger’s life in October 2007, they would also endorse his foundation and in April, 2008 Gatorade was releasing Tiger’s own sports beverage. In February, 2010 they made another announcement.
“We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship. However, our partnership with the Tiger Woods Foundation will continue. We wish him all the best.” Gatorade spokeswoman Jennifer Schmit said in a statement.
In 1996 Tiger Woods began to gain recognition, with that came endorsements from Nike, AT&T, Buick (2004-2009), General Motors (ended in 2008), Gatorade, Gillette, Accenture, Tag Heuer, American Express (1997- 2002), Titleist and General Mills. Of all of them Nike is still by his side.
