Last September we found out that Aretha Franklin was at the hospital due to a serious illness. It wasn’t until later that we knew that “serious illness” was pancreatic cancer. Early this month she went into surgery although we never knew what exactly the highly successful surgery. The world was saddened after her concert cancellations, but were ecstatic to hear that the surgery went well. Up to this moment nobody knew it was cancer related. Most thought it was the fall she suffered on August that kept her with two broken ribs and off the stage until next May?
“God is still in control, I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country.”
The news about Aretha Franklin battling with Pancreatic cancer brought the memory of Patrick Swayzem who at age 57 lost his battle to Pancreatic cancer, which is a type of cancer that kills 96% of its victims. There is a less than a 10% survival rate, it is devastating to any patient diagnosed with the disease and his or her family. Other famous celebrities that died of pancreatinc cancer are Michael Landon, Joan Crawford, Luciano Pavarotti, Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster), Brock Peters, Rex Harrison, Richard Crenna, Donna Reed, Fernando Lamas, among others.
Her family was grief stricken when they heard the news. Aretha has less than a year the doctors said, but their family’s faith is strong and know that they would beat this. Aretha Franklin’s parents and three of her sisters are all dead, her brother from her mother’s side Vaughn is by her side so are her sons (Edward and Clarence (her oldest sons) Ted Jr. (from her marriage to Ted White) and Kecalf (from her marriage to Ken Cunningham).
Along with her family, fans and friends we join them with all of our warm thoughts and prayers for the health of our dear Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and her battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Would you like to send her a message? Check out the photos and video below.
