Elena Dementieva Hosted the Collectors Club at the Sony Ericsson Open 2008 on March 29th. She looked great, but I’m not commenting on the pants the dude who interviewed her was wearing. I mean, what was he thinking??!!?? That’s okay, that’s not what you are looking at anyway. He probably knew that going in so figured why not wear those pants.
Elena Dementieva was born October 15, 1981 in Moscow. This Russian beauty is as fierce a competitor on the tennis court as she is beautiful. She’s been described as the “Tennis Lolita”. Interestingly, her parents tried to get her into tennis clubs when she was a child she was turned down by Dynamo and the Central Red Army Club for imperfections in her movements. She was finally accepted by the Spartak Club and began a course of tough training under the stewardship of Russian men’s tennis great Marat Safin.
Elena was an international champion by the age of 13. While in Russia, she never fell below the top four female tennis players and being from Russia that is definitely saying something. From 2000 on she has consistently progressed to higher level tournaments. She has been stumped by the Venus and Serena Williams, however.
In spite of being beaten by the Williams sisters, ElenaElena is the only Olympic silver medalists for Russian tennis.
