It is officially the holiday season! This is when families and friends get together starting with a Thanksgiving homecoming. Stories range from the soldiers returning to college kids going back home for a weekend. Let’s take a look at some examples, and give you some tips for your own holidays. Keep reading for the full story, with photos and videos.

Going back to the parents, grandparents or others can be a magical and/or stressful time for people. But fear not, you can do it!

One of the most common Thanksgiving homecoming stories, are those of college kids going to mom and dad’s for the turkey day break. Now depending on the family dynamic this can be an awkward time or not. The students have been away from their family (some for the first time) and are probably a little different than when they left! It is important to remember that it is a special time for family and it will all be okay. Check out College Candy for more details on how to survive the day!

Traveling around this time is crazy and that is due to the amount of people going to be with loved ones. Over the past couple years the percentages have increased as more people travel to be together. Parents and children, college kids and even soldiers from abroad use the skies and roads to get to the delicious feasts! Don’t stress about the traffic, etc., though, and remember to be thankful if you have somewhere to go. Not everyone is able to spend time with loved ones at this time.

A very special event that happens a lot around this time of year, is soldiers from war coming home and surprising their families. It gives me a warm feeling inside and I can’t imagine how amazing that must be. This year one such story happened to the Apps family, when Captain Tobias Apps came home from Iraq after being gone almost a year. He was thrilled and his mother said:

“My heart. I’m just glad to have him here.”

So whether you are traveling from school or another country, take a moment to remember how lucky you are if you have a Thanksgiving homecoming. Stories that you will remember the rest of your lives will happen as you all gather around the dinner table! What are your plans for this turkey day? Be sure to tell me your plans and thoughts, after you check out these pictures and video.

Happy Thanksgiving!
