Standing at 6’8″ Brittney Griner is one of the few women who has dunked at a college basketball game, there is no doubt that she has all it takes to be a basketball star in the big leagues since she is already considered one, but what does make her so fascinating?
Brittney Yevette Griner was born in Houston, Texas on October 18, 1990 making this her age 20 years old. She is the youngest child of Sandra and Raymond Griner, her older siblings are Pier, D and Shkera. She studied at Chester W. Nimitz Senior High School aka Nimitz High School where she joined the The Nimitz Cougars basketball team and started the beginning of a very promising and successful career, graduated in 2009 and set a Cougar record of 1,586 rebounds, 198 assists, 939 blocks, 268 steals and 3,114 points plus she was named Parade All American and Player of the Year, Gatorade’s Texas Girls’ Player of the Year, Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year, USA Today All American and Player of the Year, Parade Player of the Year … Parade All-American, McDonald’s All-American, Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year, Miss Basketball by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, Houston Chronicle Player of the Year, USA Today Player of the Year, 2009 State Farm/WBCA High School Player of the Year selected by the WBCA. On May 7th, 2009 it was proclaimed to be the Brittney Griner Day by Mayor Bill White.
After High school Brittney went to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She said that she chose Baylor because they had a great basketball team and because she wanted to remain in Texas. Once she became a Baylor Bear she was unstoppable, a dangerous and powerful player. Even though she is a freshman she made it into the 2010/2011 Associated Press Women’s basketball preseason All-America team, Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Big 12 Co-Defender Player of the Year, and MVP Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.
In March 2010 she received a one game suspension from her coach and another one from the NCAA after she broke Texas Tech Jordan Barncastle’s nose. Brittney Griner was an important personality at Baylor vs. UConn’s game on November 16th, 2010, even though Baylor lost to UConn. No info about any boyfriend for Brittney for the moment.
