Branching into a new kind of comedy as the voices of ‘Megamind,’ Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Brad Pitt all bring their best to the screen for last weekend’s blockbuster Dreamworks production. Does it live up to the hype? Find out, and see photos and videos below!
Taking the standard Superman tact and turning it on it’s head, the best part about this film is the fact that it’s producers realized that the bad guy is almost always more interesting than the good guy. And to the relief of most, they aren’t afraid to rewrite the standard storyline to this end.
Recording the voices of Megamind and a few other sub-characters, Will Ferrell turns in a refreshing performance far different from his characters of the past. In fact, most say you wouldn’t even recognise his voice! Playing the weedy evil genius with a bulbous cranium, Ferrell said the role gave him a lot to work with.
“I felt like it was a pretty unique story – a ‘careful what you wish for’ scenario,” he said. “And everyone was kind of trusting of what I thought would be funny.”
Filling out the cast, Tina Fey plays the abrasive reporter Roxanne Ritchi. Another direct link to the Superman story, Fey gives this sarcastic reporter a nice anti-damsel edge. Finally, Pitt plays the intrepid super-hero Metro-Man to fill out the classic storyline. But that’s where the similarities end. Not to give too much away, I’ll just warn all of you Smallville fans to keep an open mind on this one!
