It is a sad day for sports as the man known as the enforcer in basketball, Maurice Lucas has died. The former Trail Blazer star died on Sunday after a long battle with bladder cancer.
In terms of a biography this is what we know about the Pittsburgh born Maurice. He was nothing short of a star when he was on the court, whether he was playing in the NBA or playing college ball for Marquette University he always brought his A-game. The 6â€ť9 man led his college team to the NCAA championship game in 1974. Lucas joined the Portland Trail Blazers during the 1976-77 season. It was his unbelievable talent that made him a key figure in the Trail Blazers taking home the NBA title that year, you can see a video clip from one of the championship games below. In 1980 he left the team and then bounced around the NBA until he returned back to Portland for his final season in 1988. After he retired Maurice became assistant coach of his former team the Trail Blazers for a couple of years.
