Revealing all about the long-time couple’s separation, the “Wall Street” actress says even she was surprised when the couple called it quits. Susan Sarandon split from her longtime partner Tim Robbins last December; the couple has two kids together but had never tied the knot. Get the full story, with photos and video below!
The “Lovely Bones” actress confirmed this past weekend that the 23-year couple had separated at the end of last year. She says she was shocked to discover how her fans had been affected by the news.
“People were coming up to me in the street and saying, ‘I cried and cried when I heard’,” she said. “Well, I was sadder! I didn’t think it would ever happen, either.”
Hearing Susan Sarandon split from longtime squeeze Tim Robbins, the first question on people’s minds is: Why didn’t they ever get married? The acting stars apparently agreed that they remain unwed after a failed marriage early in her life. Her opinion was that they would appreciate each other more if there were no guarantees. Now, she’s not so sure.
“I’ve always liked the idea of choosing to be with somebody. I thought that if you didn’t get married, you wouldn’t take each other for granted as easily. I don’t know if after 20-something years that was still true.”
But she insists that married or not, the couple’s relationship had run its course. Battling the constant pressures of Hollywood, and a 12-year age difference, the couple had set an impressive standard. Now, she says, it’s time to go their separate ways.
“You bring people into your life at certain times. Maybe you have a relationship to have children, and you realize that it’s fulfilled after that point.”
The Susan Sarandon split from Tim Robbins will no doubt affect their kids the most. Their youngest, Miles, turned 18 this year, so at least they are all grown up. What do you think of this separation? Do you think things would have been different if these talented actors had wed? Let me know, and send your best to the Robbins’ family in the comment section!
