Diego Sanchez and Paulo Thiago have a lot at stake at UFC 121. Find out why this fight is so crucial to win for both of these contenders below.
First let’s find out how they match up:
Diego Sanchez aka ‘Nightmare’ Record: 23-4-0 Height: 5’ 10” Weight: 170 lbs
Paulo Thiago (doesn’t have a nickname) Record: 13-2-0 Height: 5’ 11” Weight: 170 lbs
As you can see by the stats above these highly skilled Mixed Martial Arts experts are pretty evenly matched, so this should make for a great fight. Also, they are both coming off losses, which I imagine would make them even hungrier for a victory.
This is what Sanchez had to say in regard to the humiliating loss he suffered against John Hathaway at UFC 114, and his upcoming fight against Thiago:
“I am giving everything I have in the training camp this time around, I will show my fans and UFC that that last fight I was only performing at 70% with no one to blame but myself.”
Thiago’s last fight was no walk in the park either. He lost to Martin Kampmann at UFC 115, so he is worried about keeping his position in the organization. He explained:
“He’s (Sanchez) a tough fighter, and he’s on the same situation as me, coming from a loss … It’ll be a tough fight, we both want to keep our jobs.”
Despite Thiago’s statement, It is extremely unlikely that either one of these MMA warriors has to worry about being released from the Dana White run organization. Although, a loss for either one of them would put a title shot way out of reach.
