Florida Gators WR Chris Rainey was arrested today on some serious charges. What are the allegations against him? Find out, and view his mug shot below.
It hasn’t even been a full day since the arrest of Chris Rainey, and seemingly Urban Meyers and the rest of the Gators are already trying to distance themselves from the player. Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio reportedly denounced the receiver as currently being part of the team, saying:
“Chris Rainey is not a part of our team right now.”
The redshirt junior is already out of jail this afternoon, but was instructed to have no contact with the woman who he allegedly threatened. As of now, we do not know the name of the reported victim as news sources are keeping it under wraps due to the nature of the charges.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the mystery woman is quoted as saying:
“I did not want to have him arrested. When the police came, I signed papers to not press any charges. I don’t fear for my safety. . . . People all over the country have been calling my cell phone. I’m not afraid of him. I’m more afraid of all the repercussions.”
Some are questioning her response to Rainey’s alleged death threat, which was in the form of a text message that said “Time to Die [expletive] u and ur???” Does she not want to press charges because she is terrified of what he might do if she does, or does she really not deem him a threat? But, if she doesn’t think he’s a threat, why did she contact the authorities in the first place? These are all questions that will be answered in time.
