Valerie Fignon‘s hubby was a two time Tour de France winner (1983, 1984), ten years after he won his first Tour he retired, but not entirely he continues his involvement in cycling. Last year he released his book ‘We were Young and Carefree’, the same year the world knew he had cancer. It was that disease that took his life on August 31st, 2010, just weeks after he celebrated his 50th birthday. The sad news of Fignon’s death was revealed by his second wife Valerie.

It was Valerie who released the statement of her Husband’s death to the media.

"Valerie Fignon, his wife, is sad to announce the death of Laurent Fignon today,"

Her hubby died at 12:30 p.m at the  Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital in Paris, France, she was by his side.

Valerie Fignon got married to the famous and charismatic cyclist on May 17th, 2008 at Bagneres -de – Bigorre’s City Hall, 8 years after his divorce from his first wife and mother of his son. You can check out their wedding picture right here.

Valerie Fignon a Bourges in Cher, France resides in Paris, France where she works as a sales manager for the famous French construction group  Saint Gobain.
