Gertrude Vachon, better known as WWE superstar ‚ÄėLuna,‚Äô is reportedly dead at 48. She died this morning in Florida, however the circumstances surrounding her death are still unclear. Read more below.
What a sad, sad day for wrestling fans! ‚ÄėLuna‚Äô was a big part of wrestling for many kids, including myself, growing up. I have a terrific memory of opening up a fresh pack of trading cards when I was a youngster, and pulling out one of her cards. In fact, I believe I still have it tucked away somewhere. I think I might just do a little digging to try to find it‚Ķ
But for those of you who aren‚Äôt too familiar with the wrestling legend, here are some important facts. She wrestled for the WWE from 1993 to 2000, and had gained notoriety as Bam Bam Bigelow‚Äôs ‚Äúmain squeeze.‚ÄĚ She sported a trademark mowhawk for the better part of her career, and would wear crazy get-ups along with fake veins and other body paint designs. Her father is Paul ‚ÄúButcher‚ÄĚ Vachon, making her uncle Maurice ‚ÄúMad Dog‚ÄĚ.
Just a couple of weeks ago, ‚ÄėLuna‚Äô reportedly lost everything correlating with her wrestling career in a fire. Mick Foley and his twitter account immediately came to the rescue, and he tweeted a request to his Twitter followers on behalf of his friend, asking them to help out by sending merchandise related to Vachon‚Äôs career to a PO box he had set up. Proving that these guys really do have each others backs.
Wrestling Promoter and friend David Herro tweeted:
“With a broken heart I am crushed 2 tell u that one of the most amazing people I have ever known has died. God Bless Luna Vachon. I love u”
‚ÄėLuna‚Äô may be dead physically, but her spirit will always live on through the lives that she touched in and out of the ring.
