There will soon be another attempt by the men’s magazine to enter the world of video games. Playboy’s online gaming label hopes to be up and running by the end of the year! You have to keep reading for all the details, including more photos and video.
The company is teaming up with the fairly unknown German publisher Bigpoint for this project. It looks like their first game will be called “Poisonville” which should be action packed and will include bunnies along the way!
Though it may seem strange for the gentlemen’s magazine to enter this type of world, after some research it actually makes sense. According to an article by CNBC, the average age of gamers is 34 years old. The Entertainment Software Association also showed that the age of people buying games is 40. And get this; the average age of reader’s for the magazine is just under 35.
There is a pretty clear vision for Playboy’s online gaming label. According to creators, this first game will put “gamers into a fictional U.S. city where crime and corruption rule the streets.” During the ride the will encounter “Playboy-caliber women” while “simulat[ing] gang warfare.”
Previously the company has done some deals for licensing of games and other small things while trying to break into this market. However they feel with their new partnership, that they will finally accomplish their goal.
“We’re looking for quality developers and the time I spent looking at Bigpoint showed me that they fit the bill for what we needed to get started. Previously, Playboy’s gaming interests included a few licensing deals and some editorial in the form of gaming reviews. But there was no clear, over-arching strategy in place. With Bigpoint, we’ve established a clear path in terms of where we want to go.”
So if all goes as planned it seems that Playboy’s online gaming venture should be here before we know it. You can already check out a beta version of “Poisonville” at www.posinville.com. Let me know what you think of the bunnies breaking into the video game world, after you check out these photos and a trailer for the game.
