Have you heard the exciting news about Albert Pujols? 400 home runs are in the bag for the St. Louis Cardinal slugger, who became the third-youngest player in MLB history to reach the milestone. Get the scoop below.
Albert Pujols is a machine, and I mean in the literal sense of the word, just like ESPN depicts him in that SportsCenter commercial! What an amazing feat, achieved by an amazing player!
The mighty swing came in the 4th inning, which sent a 0-1 fastball from starter Jordan Zimmermann of the Washington Nationals past the right-center field wall. You could tell that Pujols new exactly what he had done as soon as the bat made contact with the ball… Check out the press conference after the game to find out what Pujols thinks about all this excitement.
The only players to get to number 400 faster than Pujols are Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr. Also, tonight a three-way tie between Al Kaline and Andres Galarraga for 47th place was broken.
For those of you who don’t realize what a remarkable accomplishment this is, let me put it into other terms for you. From the time that the first rocket went souring into space till now there have been just over 500 people who have experienced the thrill of spaceflight… and I think that we can all agree that Major League Baseball has been around much longer than rocket ships (at least the human kind), right? So in a much shorter span of time, approximately 6x as many people have orbited the earth than hit 400 home runs. Pretty remarkable, eh?
