Who is the top US Open seed this year? None other than Rafael Nadal. He’s already won the French Open and Wimbledon this year and has a Number One world ranking. Get more details on who rounds out the Top 10 plus see photos and video below.
It was announced on Monday that Rafael Nadal was the Top US Open seed for this year’s event. You may remember he was the top seed back in 2008 but only made it to the semifinals, losing to Andy Murray.
Nadal is on a quest for his first US Open championship, and should he win, will have completed a career grand slam. He won the Australian Open in 2009, French Open in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010, and Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010. I am definitely rooting for him!
So who are the Top 10 US Open seeds this year for the men?
No. 2 – Roger Federer (Switzerland) He was the runner up at last year’s event and has five US Open titles under his belt.
No. 3 – Novak Djokovic (Serbia)
No. 4 – Andy Murray (Great Britain)
No. 5 – Robin Soderling (Sweden)
No. 6 – Nikolay Davydenko (Russia)
No. 7 – Tomas Berdynch (Czech Republic)
No. 8 – Fernando Verdasco (Spain)
No. 9 – Andy Roddick (highest ranking American)
No. 10 – David Ferrer (Spain)
Notably absent from the Top 10 is last year’s winner, Juan Martin del Potro, who unfortunately will not be able to defend his title as he is still recovering from surgery he had on his wrist in May. He withdrew from the event on Saturday.
The US Open will run August 30th through September 12 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. One of these days I’ll head out there and watch some matches, that seems more realistic than me traveling across the pond to Wimbledon, ha!
