Since the outbreak occurred the whole world’s been waiting for the day when it was back under control. Now, WHO has announced that the swine flu pandemic’s over! The whole story, including photos and video, is below!
After the American spring it seemed that we were finally clear of the first epidemic like this in 40 years. However, before the World Health Organization could call it, they had to wait for the southern hemisphere’s spring season. Now the good news is ringing out!
Though it was expected, everyone could breathe a sigh of relief when WHO Director-General Margaret announced the swine flu pandemic’s over.
“We are now moving into the post-pandemic period. The new H1N1 virus has largely run its course.”
Now, the virus is not completely gone and there will still be some major cases. Basically, though, what this means is that we shouldn’t see off season breakouts and it should be like any other flu.
“With every pandemic … the bug settles in and becomes part of the annual cycle of influenza once the pandemic is over.”
Doctors should still continue to monitor serious cases and if at risk people can get a vaccination, then they should. H1N1 definitely took its toll, and according to the WHO website about 18,449 deaths occurred worldwide. Though the regular season also causes deaths, this is definitely good news.
“We should remember that [seasonal] flu causes 36,000 deaths on average each year. It remains a serious illness.”
So we can rejoice that the problem is at least under control and we can officially say the swine flu pandemic’s over! If it is available will you still get the vaccine?
