MLB Wife

Shara Sweeney is a wonderful, kind and absolutely beautiful woman. Her famous hubby, a former Seattle Mariners now a Philadelphia Phillies player, has managed to handle his baseball career, his amazing charity foundation and takes care of his beloved family. Sure he is a great guy, sure you know what they say, “behind a great man is a great woman” and you know what? There is absolutely no doubt Shara Sweeney is.

Shara Nettles was born on February 2nd, 1976 to the former Oakland Athletics outfielder Jim Nettles and his wife Carol, she also has a brother Ryan.

She traveled a lot with her family when his father was still playing, but even with all that traveling she entered at Wilson High School in Tacoma, Washington where she became a great Volleyball player at St. Marks Lutheran Church. Shara grew up finding herself secure with her religious beliefs.

Soon High School graduation came and went by, her next step took her to the Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Tacoma where she continued to play volleyball.

In 1996 she took some time to visit her father who was now a coach for a minor league team where she met her soon to be hubby, they talked, hung out a bit, sure both liked each other but Shara had to get back to college, soon she would be graduating.

After college she became a flight attendant. There was no time for church anymore too much was going on with her life, new friends, new countries, parties, shopping. Sure it was all so glamorous and overwhelming, but the emptiness she felt in her heart was stronger, what was wrong? She was young, beautiful, earning good money, traveling to the most beautiful places but she couldn’t help but feel sad, like she missed something. It was then that she realized that she let her relationship with God cool down, so she went back and got involved with her church activities again.

Ironically, her return came more or less at the same time her family planned to go to the 2001 All Star Game so she went along with them.
It was there where she saw once again that cute guy she met 5 years ago, this time Shara felt something in her heart telling her this guy was the one. After they started dating he told her he felt the exact same way about her, soon they got engaged and on November 9, 2002 she became Shara Sweeney. She became a mother of her son Michael, who was born on March 6th, 2004 and on July 22nd, 2005 McKara her daughter was born. Michael James Sweeney her eldest was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2009. Not long after her third boy Donovan was born, Donovan was born with a disease that won’t allow the movement in the stomach to send food to the intestines known as Pyloric Stenosis. He went into surgery in January. Since that time he has been filling in and gaining that adorable baby fat. Check out this beautiful picture of her and her family here.

Shara and her hubby founded the Mike and Shara Sweeney Foundation in 2006. Since that time they have helped hundreds of young teenagers to know about Jesus, through baseball plus they collaborate with other charities.

Shara’s husband’s charities and amazing work was not unnoticed, he was awarded with the 2007 Hutchinson Award, he gave the credit to God and then to his wife who was a great support for him when Donovan was sick and still supports him everyday with her faith, love, mercy and humbleness.

Shara Sweeney is a fantastic woman, Don’t you think? Share your comments with us and don’t forget to check out the photos and video below.

    Sarah Olmstead Hardman Says:

I’ve always wondered what happened to Shara. I was a flight Attendant with her and found myself wanting to be friends with her. It was a wild time for many young flight attendants but I could see Christ in her, even if she wasn’t walking the walk (of which I had no idea if she was or not). It’s wonderful to read how God has been working in her life and the life of her husband!
    God bless,
    Sarah Olmstead Hardman
