By now you’ve probably heard the results of Marquez vs Diaz 2. If not, no worries, we’ve got the complete rundown for you here. You can see photos and a video as well. Check it out!
Marquez vs Diaz 2 was the main event at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas earlier tonight, and who reigned victorious in the ring? None other than Juan Manuel Marquez, and of course it was no surprise that the win came by unanimous decision.
Judges’ scorecards all in favor of Marquez: Glenn Trowbridge (118-110), Jerry Roth (116-112) and Patricia Morse Jarman (117-111). This victory allowed Marquez to keep his WBA and WBO lightweight titles.
You may remember the first time these two met, back in February of 2009, in which Marquez won the fight in the ninth round by way of TKO. This time around, we saw Diaz just about even with Marquez in rounds 2 and 3, but Marquez soon began to dominate, and well, the rest is history. Round by round coverage of the bout can be read here.
Shortly after his win, he wanted it made known that he’d like another rematch (#3) with Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao. He said:
“The trilogy with Pacquiao is what I want. It’s good for all fight fans, the Mexicans, the Filipinos, everyone wants to see it. That’s the most important fight to me now. I’ll be ready for November, and hopefully Pacquiao will take the fight.”
As a HUGE Pacquiao fan (as well as being Filipino), I say….BRING IT ON! Although it would be a nice fight to see, it looks as if Manny already has one lined up for November 13th against Antonio Margarito. Marquez and Pacquiao first met in 2004, with that one ending in a draw, their second meeting was in 2008, with that bout resulting in a split decision in favor of Pacquiao.
So what were your thoughts about tonight’s Marquez vs Diaz 2 fight? Would you like to see another match up between Marquez and Pacquiao? You know how I feel about it, I want to know what you think. You can see photos plus a video below. As soon as highlights from this evening’s bout is available I will update the post.
