Anita Piniella is the fantastic and loving wife of coach Lou Piniella who will be spending a lot of her time with her husband now that he announced his retirement. Let’s find out who is the famous Mrs. Piniella in the story below and check out the photos and videos right here.
Anita Piniella’s husband is a well known baseball coach as well as a former MLB player. Since 2006 he has been the Chicago Cubs’ head coach, but he just announced that he will be retiring at the end of this season. Many said that his retirement is merely to be with his wife, children and grandchildren, if that is so then we should know who his awesome wife for the past 43 years is.
Anita Garcia Piniella was born in 1943 in Tampa, Florida, like her famous hubby, to Frank Garcia the owner of Gulf Title Distributors. Even though she is 66 years old like her hubby, the beautiful Anita looks years younger, something that her husband doesn’t mind and admires.
At the tender age of 18 she won the 1962 Miss Tampa Pageant, but she didn’t get involved in modeling or anything like that, her dream was to be an educator which is why she graduated with a degree in Arts and Education. Anita knew who the handsome and talented Piniella guy was just like everybody in Tampa did, but it wasn’t until 1966 when she officially met him.
Anita, who planned to be a teacher, started dating the baseball stud right away, just six months later they were getting married on April 12th, 1967. Then again after 25 years on their anniversary, Anita remarried her hubby.
Anita gave birth to her first child Lou Jr. on January 11th, 1969, then her daughter Kristi on December 25th, 1971 and their little boy Derek on April 4th, 1979. Her husband decided to retire from the MLB to be with his family, but he still wasn’t ready to say goodbye to baseball so he became a coach.
For some time her life was difficult being away from her dear Tampa and family when her husband was coaching the Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and then the Seattle Mariners, but when he joined the Rays everything seemed to go back to normal.
Except this time back at Tampa she would no longer see her father Frank Garcia who lost his battle to Lou Gehrig’s disease (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis a neurodegenerative disease that damages the motor neurons) on June 3rd, 2001, he was 77 years old. When her husband joined his next team in Chicago she supported his decision the same way she has done and kept supporting his decisions.
This year Anita Piniella’s hubby announced he will be retiring to spend more time with his wife, their children and grandchildren. Perhaps next time we have a chance to see any of their pictures it will be from their house in Tampa with their children. Meanwhile take a look at the video below.
