After crushing the Australians 4-0, the Germans were the team most likely to win this match against a Serbia that came from losing 1-0 against Ghana, but the Serbians will not make their first appearance at the World Cup only to go home empty handed. They would search for victory even though they were not the favorite to win.

These are the players who took the field at the Nelson Mandela Bat Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa:

Germany Serbia
1 Manuel Neumer 1 Vladimir Stojkovic
16 Philipp Lahm 5 Nemanja Vidic
3 Ame Friedrich 20 Neven Subotic
17 Per Mertsesacker 3 Alksandar Kolarov
14 Holger  Badstuber 10 Dejan Stankovic
6 Sami Khedira 19 Milos Jovanocic
7 Bastian Schweinsteiger 18 Milos Ninkovic
8 Masut Ozil 22 Adravko Kuzmanovic
10 Lokas Podolski 15 Nikola Zigic
11 Miroslav Klose 17 Milos Krasic
13 Thomas Mueller I6 Branislav vanovic
Coach: Joachim Low Coach: Radimir Antic

Germany took the field and looked confident enough to win over Serbia, but faith had other plans, plus the Serbian had Vladimir Stojkovic who denied Germany the dream of a draw after 90 minutes…but we will get to that later.

The first part of the game was very exciting, with a yellow card to Miroslav Klose on the 37 minute mark. It was his second, which means he is sent off and will miss the next game against Ghana. Serbia’s first goal came via Milos Krasic on the 38 minute mark.

Germany had the opportunity to tie the match  when a penalty shot was taken on the 59 minute mark by the hands of Lucas Podolki, but it was blocked by Vladimir Stojkovic.

In the Second half Germany replaced Mueller and Oezil by Marin and Cacau. I am surprise Oezil has been benched–he was doing great. On the 77 minute mark Germany made their third replacement with Badstuber by Gomez. The final match ended 1-0 after 3 minutes in the Injury time. Their next rival will come on June 23rd against Ghana, and Serbia will face Australia.
