June 3, 2010

We have come to the last of the three most exciting horse races, The Belmont Stakes. What a great closure to these awesome races, but who are this year’s contenders? Who are the jockeys? What about the trainers? All your answers are right here for your questions so keep reading and don’t forget to check out the cool photos and video below.

2010 Belmont Stakes 1

As you all know the first of this Triple Crown is the Kentucky Derby, followed by the Preakness and last but not least the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont is a 1.5 mile race that first started in 1867 in Jerome Park Racetrack. It moved to Morris Park Racecourse in 1891 and finally settled down in Belmont Park in 1905. This year we will be watching the 142nd Belmont Stake with just the most perfect location to close this chapter, New York City.

Last year’s winner was Summer Bird ridden by Kent Desormeaux and trained by Tim Ice. Unlike this year‘s jockeys the only one that had tasted the Belmont title is John Velazquez, but in the case of the trainers Nick Zito, has won twice (2004-2008); Bob Baffert (2001); Todd Pletcher (2007).

But what can we say about these beautiful horses, well at first there will only 10 horses, but just at the last moment Derby winner Calvin Borel joined with Dave in Dixie after he was defeated last year on Mine that Bird, but Dave was not the only addition at Belmont – trainer Todd Pletcher arrived with Interactif.
