Weight Loss Pills & Warning From The FDA

May 27, 2010

Ahh, summer is approaching. Time to get into that bikini. Ugh. Gotta lose some extra pounds first? Well, you probably want to steer clear of the weight loss pills. WARNING! The FDA has cautioned consumers about the risks of taking these drugs. Read more plus a video is below.

The Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday that there have been 13 documented cases of liver damage while taking alli or Xenical. Uh oh.

If you’re taking either of these weight loss pills, warning signs of liver damage include “yellow eyes and skin, itching and loss of appetite”. Loss of appetite. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to feel anyways when you’re poppin’ these pills? Just sayin’. If you partake in lots of alcoholic beverages as well, oh…could be a double whammy for ya! But if you’re already on a diet, then you know that you should be avoiding alcohol anyways…it’s just empty calories. Beer belly, need I say more? :)

Glaxo, who manufactures alli (FDA approved in 2007) and is sold without a prescription, released a statement in which they said that they are “committed to ensuring that consumers and physicians understand the safety profile”.

The makers of Xenical, Roche, (which is a prescription drug approved in 1999) issued a statement as well, saying that the “safety profile of Xenical is based on more than 10 years of clinical experience and more than 36 million patients worldwide have received Xenical.”

I’ve never understood why people take these so called diet pills in the first place. If you want to lose weight, you need to commit yourself to watching what you eat and exercise. Sure, we’ve all seen the success stories of the many who have popped some pills to lose weight and look great. I’ve been tempted to do the same, but I will not go that route, especially now after the whole ‘taking weight loss pills & warning of liver damage’ story broke yesterday. I’d like to hear what you have to say about diet pills. If you’ve taken them, how much weight did you lose, if any and did you have any side effects?

Hi, this is an extremely fascinating article. I’m really finding it difficult to lose my excess flab and cellulite recently and it’s helpful to absorb as much about the subject as possible. Do you think at any point there’ll be a reliable and affordable solution? Thank you so much for publishing my comment!

    Awesome article

There’s nothing like being healthy. In today’s America, we have toworkout more often and get rid off our bad diet habits. It’s not that hard. You only have to stick to a workout program and keep going until you reach your objectives.

Thank you for sharing this with your readers.

Totally understand where you’re coming from with these beliefs of yours. I can almost say for sure that individuals end up regretting that they did not know this earlier.
