Fresh off the controversy about her racy new song, she now may be making Wal-Mart toxic!! Miley Cyrus jewelry contains cadmium and is unsafe for kids! Read more about this story below, with more photos and videos.
Starting back in December, the AP began investigating the jewelry at many of the stores’ locations. Back in February the executives were made aware of the toxic element, but continued to sell the product!! Now, they have finally pulled the items that are potentially harmful.
Apparently the Wal-Mart “toxic” Miley Cyrus jewelry is only a problem if ingested in anyway. This is a concern since many of “Hannah Montana’s” fans are as young as age 5! Most of the charms for the “make it yourself” bracelets contain at minimum 5% of the metal! In a statement from the AP story:
“Representatives of the jewelry industry have argued that the presence of cadmium, even at high levels, is not by itself proof that an item is dangerous. The important thing, they say, is how much can escape if the item is sucked, bitten or swallowed.”
Oh well then it’s all okay! Just tell your kids not to put them anywhere near your mouth! I don’t understand how that can be their argument. Why use that metal at all?? I also can’t believe the major chain store did not immediately pull the trinkets! All they or the makers of the jewelry can say is that it’s not really that bad or it is not aimed at kids!
The 17 year old pop star has had a tough time transitioning herself from the Disney star to her own woman. And with someone like her, with a huge fan base ranging many ages, anything she is involved in can have a huge impact! We all know about her recent video and questionable dancing!
As for the plans of her jewelry line, Wal-Mart was testing ones that came in, and after much encouragement they are pulling them from the shelves as well.
“Miley Cyrus & Max Azria jewelry is not intended for children, but as part of our unwavering commitment to protecting the safety of children, we are removing all of the jewelry from sale while we investigate its compliance with our children’s jewelry standard.”
They also maintained that they take any concerns very seriously and try to quickly resolve any issues. Well I guess somewhat quickly, since it took them a few months to finally pull them! Well, tell me what you think about this Wal-Mart “toxic” Miley Cyrus jewelry debacle? Let me know and check out more photos and a video here!
