While filming his new move ‘You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger’ which is focused on growing older, we hear the thoughts of Woody Allen. “Lousy deal” and “no advantage” is how he describes getting older and closer to death. Grim! Read more about this story below, with more photos and video.
The movie he is relating with stars Naomi Watts, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Gemma Jones and Freida Pinto. With a famous cast and a fabulous director you think the spirit would be cheery. Rather, we hear his pessimistic thoughts.
This comes straight from Woody Allen. A “lousy deal,” is how he describes aging, and he continues, “There is no advantage to getting older.” In his movie that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Saturday, portrays the complexity of getting older, starting relationships and eventually facing death.
He talked about how life gets hard and that he doesn’t really see it too optimistically.
“One must have one’s delusions to live. If you look at life too honestly and too clearly life does become unbearable because it’s a pretty grim enterprise,” he says. “I do feel that it is a grim, painful, nightmarish, meaningless experience and that the only way that you can be happy is if you tell yourself some lies and deceive yourself.”
With his newest film he brings a lot of issues to the table. Religion, love, and old age are questioned and it seems in his personal view, none of them are great! So it seems to me that at age 74 he would be looking forward to nearing the end of his life. Nope, wrong again!
“My relationship with death remains the same. I am very strongly against it.”
Well that’s that! Tell me what you think of Woody Allen’s “lousy deal” thoughts and his new movie. Also check out these photos and a video clip from ‘You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.’
