The controversial law signed by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, has been receiving all kinds of attention lately. Daughter of the state’s senior senator, Meghan McCain’s immigration law opinions differs from her father’s. Read more about this below, including photos and a video.
The argument that this law violates human rights and is unconstitutional is one that is shared by this young woman. Though her father has shown his support of the legislation, she is not agreeing and describes it as “seriously flawed” and “essentially a license to pull someone over for being Hispanic.”
This Columbia University graduate is a blogger and she is no stranger to letting her thoughts known. Now we heard Meghan McCain’s immigration thoughts from an article titled “Hate the Law, Not Arizonans” in her column:
“I believe it gives the state police a license to discriminate, and also, in many ways, violates the civil rights of Arizona residents. Simply put, I think it is a bad law that is missing the bigger picture of what is really going on with illegal immigration.”
This political decision is going to face difficulties, I think, for quite some time. Since it is a federal matter, many feel that it is headed for failure when others get involved. In contrast, her father John, former presidential candidate defended the need for the law by saying:
“This law is a response to the president’s and the administration’s failure to secure our borders. The federal government has a responsibility to secure the borders, they have not.”
It is obvious that many people feel there needs to be some tightening in the restrictions and control when it comes to individuals entering our country. This 25 year old feels that this particular plan is injudicious, but also worries that the reactions to this will ultimately cause more problems.
“With President Obama calling the law ‘misguided’ and the mainstream media painting Arizona out to be a rogue state, all it does is make people go to greater lengths to defend their position.”
Tell me what you think about this law and Meghan McCain’s immigration stance. Also see more pictures and a video of her sharing thoughts on someone else!
