In her autobiography Misty really digs deep into her life, as she is telling many intimate moments she lived during her childhood, adolescence and adult life. Some of these details not even her hubby Matt Treanor knew.

Misty talked about how her father the famous Bob “Butch” May was most of the time allegedly drunk and he was very easygoing when drunk, but it was the total opposite with her mother Barbara, who when she was drunk she became allegedly violent, throwing and breaking things, and when she tried to talk to Barbara about how her behavior was hurting her, she completely shut her out, this episode was described by Misty as the last time she talked to her mom.

But Misty did learn many things from her mother who was a well ranked tennis player who later switched to beach volleyball, she showed Misty how to defend herself from boys, like the way she kicked into a guy’s groin when he tried to allegedly sexually assault her at campus housing in Long Beach. Her mother died of cancer in 2002; she talked about her mother in an entire chapter of the book. Misty also remembers her mother by the tattoo she has on her shoulder with an angel and her mom’s initials on it.

"Truthfully, if I could give back my Olympic gold medals for the chance to spend a day with my Mom, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Her death taught me a valuable lesson: Life is short and precious. You’re not guaranteed tomorrow. Unfortunately, she had to die for me to learn that."

In her autobiography she also describes how her parents’ drinking had a terrible impact on her life as she also started drinking, since college and even at her wedding when she ended up lying on the floor of her hotel’s room still wearing her wedding dress.

Her father quit drinking after he nearly killed a guy on a motorcycle in a car accident in 1988, Misty also straightened up her life, she is an Olympic champion who is enjoying life and looking forward to her next challenge with joy, and no it’s not London 2012, it is having kids!!

"Over the years, I’ve made many sacrifices to win two Olympic gold medals and put together winning streaks that will never be broken. And now I want to experience life. I want to kick back and enjoy. I want to breathe. I want to experience something as simple as summer. My biggest goal for the future is motherhood," she said. "I’ll tell you right now, becoming a mother would rank as my greatest accomplishment of all."

Some people might wonder why she had come up revealing all of these private things about her? Well, that’s easy, people sometimes went through difficult sometimes horrible things in their lives, sometimes these people think they will never recover from the scars physically, emotionally and mentally and don’t even understand why those things happened to them, but they made it victoriously and deep down know that it was not because they deserved those, but because they use their experience to reach those who are living similar or worse things in their lives and no one ever cared to talk to them. Misty can reach to those telling her experiences and how she overcame them in her book. Maybe even now you are going through a difficult time in your life or a friend of yours is, maybe her book will help you, or maybe you too have overcome a terrible thing in your life, and it’s your time to write about it so you too can help someone.

"I didn’t feel comfortable coming out and saying it, or I’m ashamed, but now it’s OK. If it can help somebody else, if somebody else can read that book, a young girl can say `Oh my gosh, she went through that same thing? No way!’ Then I feel that I’m helping."
